Last minute ring-in Asha Dilkes Hoffman gave the team one substitute, but the team couldn’t afford any injuries.

Coach Bruno reworked the line-up to cover for key missing players, putting Jaye Lanzini as sweeper and Tika Baxter as centre mid.

The change in line-up took caused some confusion at kickoff and miscommunication saw Capel to an early goal.

Disheartened, and a little nervy, the team pulled themselves together and put the focus back on passing the ball around.

A feverish Tika Baxter then booted the perfect ball from midfield through to striker Braedie Marsh who pocketed it into the net for River’s first goal.

With score equalised, the team’s confidence was restored and Margaret River began to own the game.

Coach Bruno made some minor line-up changes at half time, moving all-rounder Asha Dilkes-Hoffman into centre mid and encouraged the team to communicate.

Heeding the advice, River came out strong in the second half and it wasn’t long before forward Emelia Hewton nudged Margaret River to a 2-1 lead with an ecstatic goal.

The fit and fast Asha Dilkes-Hoffman then rounded out the game, scoring one more goal for team River putting the final score at 3-1.

Not quite the 6-0 win Margaret River had against Capel previously but a stellar effort all things considered.
