U16 Youth League Girls
MR Steelers 1 drew Busselton 1
THE MR Steelers showed just how much they have improved as a team in this hard fought game, as they took on Busselton.
The first half saw Audrey Tweedell take on the challenge of goals, ably assisted by a strong back-line consisting of Ella Borrello, Amy Steele and Emily Stevenson.
These girls worked hard, stopping numerous attacks from Busseltons’ forwards, gaining power of the ball and feeding it into the midfield.
Sacha Clark, Annie Reilly and Grace Hoban worked well, assisting strongly on the wings and in midfield, setting up many great shots which were unlucky not to go in.
Garance Camison, Yillie and Paris Bedford ran hard in the midfield and tried endlessly to set up many great shots at goals.
At half time the score was 1-0, with Busselton only just in front, leaving MR Steelers with a chance to win.
Shaniek Kingdon and Asha Dilkes-Hoffman ran tirelessly the entire game taking many shots at goals and were unlucky not to score.
With fifteen minutes remaining in the second half Margaret River were awarded a penalty from the half way line which was taken by defender Emily Stevenson.
The ball was powered up forward to Shaniek Kingdon but was unluckily intercepted by the BSN goal keeper.
Minutes later Shaniek Kingdon scored a well deserved goal which sailed into the back of the nets.
The Margaret River side cheered wildly, with the parents and subs chanting their “Shazza” cheer.
Although the Steelers were excited they did not let the excitement affect their play and kept up their high standard of play.
This game was definitely a nail-biter but well played by all.
This weeks Coaches Choice Chooks Player of the Match Award was well deserved and went to Shaniek Kingdon for her tremendous effort up front.
