Hotshots head to the break undefeated

MR Hotshots 3 d Vasse 1

THE Hotshots ensured that their holiday break got off to the right start with a well deserved win over their (not so) bitter rivals Vasse Ravens to leave them 9-0 for the season so far.

If anyone wants to see what junior sport is about come down and watch these two teams the next time they meet.

Both teams play hard entertaining football, never giving an inch, but always with a smile and a laugh with the opposition, and are always first to help up an injured opponent.

Working hard on a soggy ground is never easy and it’s even tougher with no subs on the bench, but that’s what we had.

After a five minute ‘acclimatisation’ period we were woken up by a Vasse goal and settled into what we do best, which is keeping the ball at our feet and passing to players in space.

This was especially true of our defensive players as Lisa Baddock, Michaela Parrott and Payton Evans continually dribbled the ball out of defence to set up our attack.

They were ably assisted by Jasmine Mawdsley who backed herelf to win the ball.

Tash Rigby was blistering in midfield and split the defence on many occasions.

A 30 metre cross to Casey Wood who pivoted onto her right foot and found the net from the edge of the box brought our first goal.

The halftime score line of 1-1 was an apt description of a game that was swinging like a pendulum.

Desperate defence was followed by swift attacking moves as the game ebbed and flowed.

Casey, after a solid showing on the wing, moved into central defence and showed great poise to clear the ball numerous times.

Up forward Evie Koster was having her best game providing a pivot point, and Ebony Darnell was a great target on the left wing.

Zaneta Van Zyl once again showed her ability, taking the ball into the box beating several defenders, or finding a player in space with a pass.

A great throw-in from Zaneta found Jordan Bernhardt who beat several players before sending it on to Tash who duly converted it with a great shot.

If there is one great thing about this team it is the fact that whether they are 1 nil down, 2-1 up or 5-0 up they still give 100 per cent.

Sorcha Fox gave her all on the wing and connected with Zaneta several times to drive us forward.

Payton and Casey continued driving us out of defence, and Tash ran her heart out through the midfield, being rewarded in the end with another goal to take the final score to 3-1.

Her partner in crime in the mid was Jordan, who held the ball so well at her feet that she continually beat three or four opposition.

The most rewarding aspect was seeing Jordan work hard in defence to bring the ball through the midfield and link up with the strikers.

I think it is the most complete game I have seen Jordan play and she earns my Chooks player of the Day.

Have a well earned rest girls, you have deserved it!
