Underwater hockey’s annual Rumble

25/06/2008 9:51:00 AM
ON June 12 the Margaret River Underwater Hockey Club hosted its annual competition, the Margaret River Rumble, with competitors arriving from all over the State.

The Recreation Centre closed its doors to the public while the competitors battled it out underwater in a marathon four hour round robin.

Following the event, the competitors and their families headed to the shire’s Zone Room for the presentation ceremony and Curry Night dinner.

Margaret River Club members provided a hot pot of curry each and brought in as many rice cookers as they could find to feed the hungry competitors.

Prizes for the winning team and outstanding players were donated from a number of local businesses including Kerfuffle Wines, Busselton Jetty Underwater Observatory, Mark Nathan Denistry and Intimo Lingerie.

Stand out Margaret River Club players included juniors Heydon Wenman and Kieran Gibbon and newcomer James Oudejans.

The Club would like to thank the Margaret River community for supporting its firewood and wine raffle which raised money for the event and new equipment and would also like to thank Rance Driscoll and Dylan Brown at the shire for organising the use of the Zone Room and the pool.

The Margaret River Club is currently running junior/beginner games on Friday afternoons from 5pm to 5.45pm.

All new players are welcome and gear can be provided on the night.

For those that are more experienced or want to “jump in the deep end”, mixed scratch match games are held on Tuesdays from 7.30pm to 8.30pm and Fridays from 6pm to 6.45pm.
