IN a first for the Margaret River Karate Club, five members of the club have been selected for the Western Australian State Karate Team that will compete in the National Karate Championships in Perth in early August.

David Calneggia, Leela Dilkes-Hoffman, Asha Dilkes-Hoffman, Georgia Campbell and Will Pascoe were all chosen to represent their state in the Kumite (fighting) and Kata divisions.

All competitors won a medal in the State Championships in Perth in May.

All five members of the team have been training hard since early in the year to prepare for the first National Championship held in Perth since 2000.

The Margaret River Karate Club congratulate them all for their hard work all year and their successes at the National Championships.

The competitors thank the Department of Sport and Recreation for their financial support.
