Roos v Tigers

ONCE again junior footy was blessed with beautiful sunny weather, albeit a bit brisk for some of the supporting parents.

The Roos got off to a great start thanks to Elias Handcock’s determination and straight kicking, booting the first goal in a matter of a minute.

With good team work and some long kicking out of the centre by Tiger Wholagan, the Roos kept the Tigers on their toes as both sides settled themselves into the game.

Frank Bennett showed plenty of determination on the wing beating his opponent on most occasions.

The Roos’ handball out of the packs, combining with quick kicks down the centre of the ground proved to be a winner.

Bill Hampton and Rolly Kyme were quick to get into the game.

The Tigers responded and the first quarter proved to be an evenly matched encounter.

The second quarter saw both teams step up a level, and brothers Finn and Jack Haslau, Blake Smith and Kila Hatchett were standout players for the Roos.

Sean Gill impressed taking a well judged mark and finishing off with a accurate kick to score a goal.

The Tigers had good contributions from Nathan Doig, Jacob Oaks, Peter Zuvich and Ben Spence.

At the half time break, Roos coach Steve Kyme told the team how he was impressed with their efforts and how much they had improved since their last game against the Tigers.

The team responded to their coach in the third quarter when the Tigers come out on the attack.

Keeping the backline busy defending were Rolly Kyme and Blake Smith, with Tiger Wholagan taking strong marks and long kicking out of the danger zone.

Some of the smaller players, Jye Nikulinsky, Kyle Graham and Harry Godridge showed true grit going in after the hard balls.

The Tigers didn’t have it all their own way and on several occasions the Roos had slick rebounds into their forward line which resulted with quick goals to the delight of their supporters.

The final quarter again saw an equal determination from both teams, everyone was out to have a final impact on the game.

Some great passages of play resulted and goals were scored at both ends of the ground.

Rolly Kyme impressed and booted two consecutive goals, while other standout players were Hamish Mearns, Kyle Graham, Sean Gill and Elias Handcock.

Player of the match went to Tiger Wholagan.
