ON Friday Margaret River Senior High School Year 12 students spent the day at the Margaret River Education Campus for a Leavers Seminar.
The day was organised by the high school nurse Shelley O’Brien on behalf of the school to wish the students good luck before they graduate, and to acknowledge that majority of the students would be participating in the leavers’ week celebrations.
Preparing them with messages about staying safe, the seminar started with presentations by the Augusta-Margaret River Shire’s community development officers Rance Driscoll and Moanna Lutton, and Hamelin Bay accommodation provider Melissa Lay.
Other groups involved included the Margaret River police, and the Red Frog Crew (the Australian Chaplains association) which provides about 2000 volunteers during leavers week each year to stay at the venues and support the accommodation providers.
Activities included Jay Edwards from Trinity Uniting giving a workshop highlighting the consequences of unsafe sexual activity, and activities from Mission Australia and ASWA which included fatal vision goggles to demonstrate the influence of alcohol on co-ordination.
The fourth time the seminar has been held for local graduating students; it was funded and supported by the Margaret River Senior High School, and local businesses who also contributed prizes.
