DANCERS from around the South West had the opportunity last Thursday to work with one of Australia’s most accomplished ballet dancers.
Tim Harbour, a choreographer with the Australian Ballet, visited Busselton and ran young dancers through some steps.
“The main aim of the Dance the Dream workshops is to give students the opportunity to pursue their dream of dancing,” he said.
“It’s a great opportunity for them to make contact with the industry, when many of them may not have even had the opportunity to see a full professional production.
“It is a pleasure to be asked to be involved and have the opportunity to give something back to an art form that has given me such a rich life.”
Mr Harbour was a dancer with the Australian Ballet for 13 years before retiring from the stage as a senior artist at the end of 2007 to concentrate full time on teaching and choreography.
He made his choreographic debut with Sunken Waltz for the Australian Ballet in 2005.
Sunken Waltz was nominated as Best New Work in Dance Australia’s Critic’s Choice Awards.
Other ballets Tim has choreographed include Eve, Fielder and Wa.
The Dance the Dream program has been touring Australia extensively.
