Chef apprentices sizzle

THE South West Regional College of TAFE has entered nine students in the Chefs Apprentice of the Year competition, and five local apprentices are among the finalists.

Second year apprentices Tahlia Stoveld and Liz Piper, third year apprentice Ben Bishop and first years Kelly Genge and Steve Wilkinson will join forces this Sunday, June 29 at West Coast TAFE in Joondalup.

At the finals, each competitor will be provided with a box of ingredients, which the chefs are required to prepare, cook and serve with an appropriate garnish.

They must also write a menu, recipe and work plan.

“It’s a fantastic result for the SWRC of TAFE as we entered a total of 10 apprentices across the college and have secured seven of the 32 places available in the finals,” chef lecturer Amanda Smith said.

“We have some great apprentices going through over the last couple of years and the results are starting to show in terms of being competitive with metropolitan campuses.”
